Big Bend National Park
Venturing Crew 2020
2004
The trekkers of the Crew took a trip to the ‘big
bend’ part of Texas – Big Bend National Park. It is about as far-away as one can get
and be totally enveloped in the wilderness. Most of the camping and trekking was
in the Chisos Basin area, with some side journeys to
the desert floor and the Rio Grande River. A few photographs of the vista from
the trails we hiked.

Big Bend National Park is located in West Texas adjacent to the Rio Grande and 70 miles south of Marathon, Texas. The park is scattered with a few small
ghost towns, several visitor centers, and a lodge with concessions. Before trekking the trails of this
area, be well trained in dry climate trekking and be weather-wise. Cautionary
note : This area is adjacent to the USA-Mexico border. Be advised to travel safely and under
current advice of law enforcement officials.
